#15 On Library 2.0 & Web 2.0

I read the articles by Rick Anderson and Michael Stephens. I agree that libraries should plan for patron needs. We need to know what technology is out there and which if any of it can help our patrons. Libraries should not purchase a product just for the honor and glory of saying we have it available at our library. This is a waste of both time and money. Both of which are precious. Mr. Stevens saids that technology is changing quickly and we should be aware of both what's new in the library world and what is new in the business community.

Mr. Anderson believe's that the library should streamline its printed materials and focus more on technology. I disagree. Libraries should have a well around collection. We need both printed and web based materials. Althrough technology may be changing quickly a large majority of patrons are not. People have trouble ajusting to change. Mr. Anderson also states that the technology should require little to no instruction from staff. I don't care how simple it may seem to us, we still do a lot of hand holding. One example is "Seach Ohio". Some patron don't understand why the librarian can't do it on their computer.
